The new Kristin Ess hair care line at Target is the holy grail of budget friendly hair products. From shampoo and conditioner to finishing serums, and everything in between, there i a product for every hair type and problem that you’re guaranteed to fall in love with. If you’re unfamiliar with Kristin Ess, you can thank her for being the unicorn that styles Lucy Hale and Lauren Conrad’s hair. YUP, you read that right. So, if you’re in the market to step up your hair care products, run, don’t walk to your local Target (the line is exclusively sold there!) and pick up some goodies for yourself. Everything is priced between $10 and $14, your wallet will thank you.
Tip: Be sure to head over to the Target website before you make the trip to see if your local stores carries the products, because some don’t! If yours does, yay! If it doesn’t, don’t fret! There is only a limited amount of variation of products in store and the website carries much, much more.
I recently picked up some Kristin Ess goodies for myself, and I figured if I was trying them anyways, I mine as well let you all know how it went! And if you know me, I’m not a huge hair care/hair product person so this is a *big* step for me.
One of my favorite perks about the line is that most of the products feature zip-up technology, which is a strengthening complex designed to “zip-up” split ends and target weak areas of the hair to smooth the appearance of damage and protect your hair from environmental changes and color fade!
What It Does: Both the shampoo and conditioner state that they work for all hair types and has a formula that cleans your hair but also leaves it feeling moisturized and looking healthy. It’s recommended to use a dime to a quarter-size amount of the shampoo and massage into your scalp to create a rich lather. The same recommendation goes for the conditioner, but suggests you refrain from applying it to the last inch or two near the root.
What I Think: I have *very* finicky hair. My hair gets oily easily so I have to watch what products I put in my hair, which really puts a damper on my styling routine. When I first tried the one shampoo and conditioner, I set my standards very low so I wouldn’t be disappointed if it didn’t work. It took me a couple washes to figure out just how much shampoo and conditioner I should be using, but after about a week, I finally figured out the perfect ratio. It leaves me with “just left the hair salon” soft and smooth hair and it smells delicious! Does it get any better? No.
What It Does: Detangles, softens, strengthens, seals in moisture, and enhances shine. This leave-in conditioner is completely weightless and will bring dull hair back to life. It’s recommended to avoid spraying this leave-in conditioner on partially air dried or blow dried hair for best results and to apply it immediately out of the shower to towel dried hair.
What I Think: I *really* like this product, but I prior to trying it, I never used a leave-in conditioner as part of my everyday hair routine. With that said, if you are someone who reaches for leave-in conditioner day in and day out, I highly recommend this one! I have super snarly hair (#ugh) after the shower, and it definitely detangles as good as it says. Between my mom and I, we’re about a quarter of the way through the bottle!
What It Does: This water-based pomade is the perfect texturizing component to any hair style. Perfect for braids, waves, and short hair (holllaaa at all the girls with cute bobs and lobs!), it gives with soft, full texture while still maintaining that volumizing hold. Apply a pea-sized amount to styled hair working from middle to ends for separation and texture and finishing off at the root for extra lift.
What I Think: Out of the five Kristin Ess products I tried, this one is hands down my favorite and is worth every penny (it’s only $10!). I don’t really know what to consider my hair – is it short? Is it medium length? Who knows, but this stuff is m-a-g-i-c. Since it is water based, it rinses away with water so there’s no more fighting product out of your hair in the shower. I like to warm it up in my palms before applying and it gives me the perfect “I just curled my hair but want to look like a bad ass” hair do.
What It Does: This sulfate-free (heck yes!) hair mask is perfect for all hair types and brings your hair back to life by moisturizing and nourishing your locks. It can be used once a week for extra shine and softness or applied and covered with a plastic shower cap for a more intensive treatment. If you opt to use it once a week in the shower, try your best to leave it in for at least five minutes (or more if you have time!) for maximum results. This mask has a decent amount of slip, meaning it’s easy to distribute throughout the hair.
What I Think: The only time I ever do a hair mask is when I got for my twice a year hair appointment so this is not a product I’m going to be using weekly, but I’ve opted for one a month! If you have dry hair and are constantly fighting to get more moisture in it, this product is for you. I love that it has slip, making it easy to distribute and wash out. So far I’ve only tried it as a weekly treatment for extra shine and softness but I have the more intensive treatment on my to-do list! I do have to say though, my hair is 100 times softer after using it!
After using these products for a few weeks now, I have definitely noticed a positive change in my hair. I love that I can achieve salon quality style at home without breaking the bank. Even though some of these products aren’t ones I would necessarily use on a day-to-day basis, I still *highly* recommend incorporating them into your hair routine. For the price, you can’t go wrong!
