I love clothes, I love shopping for clothes, I love feeling confident in what I wear. But, no matter what clothing items I purchase, there will always be those items that I will always go back to no matter what. You know, those closet staples that no matter what the occasion, you are have incorporated one of those items into your outfit? Those are the items that I will justify spending a little extra money on because I know that they will last me for years to come and I know that they are the heart and sole of my wardrobe.
If you have yet to start building the heart and sole of your wardrobe, here are 7 that are must-haves:
1. A great pair of denim
A great pair of denim can get you through anything. There are endless options when it comes to finding the right denim for you – cut, color, rise, style (are style and cut the same thing??). Anyways, a great pair of denim that fits you in all the right places is essential when building a wardrobe and there’s no better feeling than your ass looking great.
2. A classic heel
Whether it be nude or black, leather, patent leather, or suede, you need a classic heel. What style you want is to you and your preferences but with a pair of classic heels, you are ready for anything life throws at you. You will have a pair of heels to wear on your first date with your person, you will have a pair of heels to wear to an interview for the perfect job, you will have a pair of heels when you watch your siblings get married. Invest in a great, classic heel and never look back.
3. Multi-functional sneakers
I’ve been all for the sneaker trend lately, I have no idea why I went so long without wearing sneakers on a daily basis. They’re comfy, they’re chic, and they’re multi-functional. Every closet needs a good pair of sneakers that you can wear to the gym, traveling, running errands, or even out to lunch with an old friend. There are so many options out there, so find what works for you and how you can style them for all the different parts of your life.
4. A White Tee
A white tee is the perfect top to throw on during those hot summer days with a cute pair of shorts, or dressed up with your favorite denim and a fun pair of heels. I’m currently loving the soft & sexy t-shirt from American Eagle for its casual-ness. A white tee is also perfect for layering in the cooler months with your favorite leather jacket and cute accessories.
5. Family friendly dress
When I say a family friendly dress, I mean a dress that you can wear for all occasions and you are proud to wear in front of your family. Classic, not to crazy, and one that you can wear for any type of event if you don’t have time to buy something new.
6. Classic button down
I keep three button downs in my closet at all times: a white one, a navy gingham, and a chambray. Another great option is a flannel. These are all classics that you can dress up, or down, and can wear for most occasions. Invest in a couple that you really like and follow any and all laundry instructions on the inside tag.
7. A classic coat
I purchased a Kate Spade coat two years ago and it was the best thing I have ever bought myself. The length of the coat goes to mid-thigh so it’s perfect to wear in the winter to keep my butt warm and also looks put together when I wear it over a dress for a family event. I highly suggest investing in a cute, natural colored coat that you can wear all the time and also to the nicer events and to work. Think Olivia Pope, classic, fun coats.
