Alright peeps – balancing working and blogging is ten times harder than balancing college and blogging. Who would have thunk??? Now that I’m like….. four weeks into my new job and have slacked terribly, I think I finally figured it out. The key to balancing work and blogging is with a bangin’ planner.

Since I work in retail, my hours vary day-to-day but I tend to work 11-8 and 2-11 shifts the most which are the most beneficial when it comes to balancing work and blogging. Secretly, 7-4 and 8-5 shifts are my favorite because I can get up and go straight to work when I’m most awake (you got a morning person on your hands). Either way, I’d be nowhere without my fabulous Erin Condren LifePlanner™.

One of my childhood friends has been helping me out with the blog lately and I’m so sad that she’s leaving for a YEAR abroad in JAPAN in a few short weeks! But, I am so excited for her and all of the new things she will experience!

When I’m work an 11-8 shift, I’m *usually* up at around 7:30am in order to get the threads post on the Gal Pal Girl Gang Facebook group and to share my most recent post on Facebook, Instagram, StumbleUpon, etc. when it goes live at 8am. If I don’t have a post going up, I typically work on any upcoming posts, answer any e-mails, and begin to tackle my to-do list!

I am also a paper and pen gal through and through and even though I do spend a lot of time on my computer, I usually scribble out the main points to an upcoming post or any guidelines for a sponsored post on a piece of paper. When this happens, or I print things out and am on the go, I love using my pocket folders to keep it all organize while avoiding the bulkiness of a binder.

Depending on how extensive my to-do list is and how time sensitive some of my tasks are, I sometimes opt to bring my laptop to work with me so I can get things done on my break. At first, I wasn’t bringing my laptop to work with me but then I realize how long a one hour break was (it’s loooonnggggg!). So on those more hectic weeks, I do like to get some blogging done over break even if it’s just by commenting on other blogs and being active on social media! 

Once I get home, I typically make myself a bite to eat, poor myself a glass of wine, and watch cheesy Hallmark movies with my mum until I can’t keep my eyes open any longer. Sometimes I’ll blog, sometimes I won’t. Working is tiring, man.

I honestly had another thing coming for me when I thought that blogging would be easier post-college than it was in college but boy oh boy was I wrong. College bloggers – ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS. 

Whether you are in high school, college, or an “adult” (I use that word as loosely as possible), make sure you invest in a great planner that works for you. I would be seriously be lost without my Erin Condren planner, pens and dry erase markers, folders, and notebook. Blogging is no joke and if it’s your thing like it’s my thing, a planner will do you good.

    This post could not come at a better time! I just started my first full-time job today and also had a post go up and I couldn’t promote as much or read anyone else’s… I felt so neglectful! I think bringing my laptop will be the best option so that I can get a lot done during that one-hour time period. Also, blogging while in college is wayyyy easier – especially because you have breaks in between classes and then have either all morning, or all afternoon!

      Bringing my laptop to work on extra hectic to-do list days makes it a little bit more bearable when I get home! I get tired easily so once I’m home from work I never want to do anything!

    I used the EC planner one year and I really liked it. I stopped buying it because of the steep price, but then they came out with different layouts and now I’m itching to buy another one!

      Totally understandable! I still haven’t decided on a planner I love so I’m constantly trying out new ones! The new layouts and colors of the EC planners are great, though!
