I’ve always had problematic skin and it’s always been a pain my ass. When I was in high school, I told myself it was because I was going through puberty and the number of break outs I had each month would slow down once I was in college. Since then, I had finally accepted the fact that I have acne prone skin and I most likely will always have acne prone skin. This is not something I am okay with living with the rest of my life because, let’s face it – acne SUCKS.
Since I came to college, I have made it a point to figure out what works for my skin, what doesn’t, and how I’m going to control the acne I was so kindly blessed with. Although I have not yet found a perfect remedy, I have found a slue of products that work well for me and have finally established a skin care routine.
I’m not a dermatologist or any sort of skin care professional, but I am going to share with you what I have learned and discovered over time from my own personal experiences with my acne prone skin. The biggest point I will ever stress about taking care of your skin is that your nightly skin care routine is going to make all the difference. Try new products, switch up your routine, and when you find something that works – stick to it.
I recently did just that and I am beyond ecstatic to add some of the Georgia May Skincare products to my nightly routine. Oils are big right now in the world of beauty products and I honestly never even considered testing them out because I thought using oils on my face would just make my oily skin even more oily and cause me to break out even more. I was completely wrong and thanks to Georgia May I’m finally feeling more and more confident in my own skin each and every day.
After her first child was born, Julia was motivated to start Georgia May to provide a quality skincare product line devoid of harsh chemicals that damage skin and negatively impact overall health. Through trial and error, Julia experiment with various essential and carrier oil combinations to solve a slue of maladies from severely dry, irritated skin issues, to problems regarding aging skin, to sun damage and acne. After Julia’s research and experimenting, she created numerous products that she felt she should share with others to help them with their skin issues, and boy am I glad she did!
1. Start with removing any and all makeup from your face
Makeup is great because it hides our blemishes, it makes us look better, and it sure as hell makes us feel better. The downside to it is that it is terrible for your skin and sleeping in it is even worse. I always start my nightly skin care routine by simply removing my makeup with Neutrogena’s makeup remover cleansing towelettes and they are seriously the cats pajamas.
2. Use your favorite daily face wash to cleanse your face
Most skin care and acne products only work to the best of their ability if they are used on a clean face. Rinse your face with water and use your favorite face wash to wash away and clean your pores of any dirt, germs, and nastiness. I started using Clearasil Ultra daily face wash about a year ago and it works wonders. Be sure to lather your face wash in your hands first and to apply it to your face in a circle pattern for an ultimate clean.
3. Treat yourself to a face mask
Using face masks are a great way to not only pamper yourself but also are a great way to give your skin a little extra oomph. I am currently using the Bioré self heating charcoal mask every two to three days after I remove all makeup and wash my face. Georgia May is currently in the process of developing a face mask (along with a toner and facial scrub!) and I seriously cannot wait for it to come out and to add it to my nightly skin care routine as well.
4. Apply your favorite Georgia May oil(s)
There are three Georgia May oils that I use on a daily basis (but they’re all amazing!) – the Dewy Darling Dry Skin Face Elixir, the Clear Sailing Acne & Oily Skin Face Elixir, and the Heaven Scent Body Oil. As of right now, I’m switching between the clear sailing oil and the dry skin elixir on an every-other-day basis to help my problem areas as well as to soothe and hydrate my skin without my pores being clogged or my face getting oily. A little goes a long way in the case of these oils. I put a little on my hands, rub them together, and apply to my face in a circular motion. I then apply the body oil to my legs as well as my elbows (my elbows get so dry – anyone else with me?). The great thing about these oils is that they don’t leave any oil stains on my sheets, which is something I was worried about!
Whether you choose to use a moisturizing chapstick, lip balm, or an https://bit.ly/1T0aLx7, lather it on, grab your favorite book and get in bed. I loving using a moisturizer on my lips and an under eye moisturizer before I head to bed to avoid cracked lips and baggy eyes in the mornings.
Finding the right skin care routine for your skin type and lifestyle is very important in achieving great skin. It might take a little time but it’s always worth it in the end. When you’re trying to figure out what works best for you, try focusing on your nighttime routine because the hours you spend sleeping are the hours that your body is going to work repairing any damage that has been made. Whatever products you do decide to use, I highly suggest adding one of the Georgia May products your routine – I promise you won’t regret it!
