The way to anyone’s heart is through their stomach, so why not ring in the new year with yummy eats and sips? Putting together a cheese platter always seemed so difficult, then I decided to give it a try and guess what? It’s pretty easy! For this one, I just grabbed a few basics at the local grocery store including cheese, crackers, nuts, jelly, and some grapes. Okay, so I dug the grapes out of my fridge and they’ve seen better days, but we’ll live.
Cheeses can be intimidating, especially when you’re having company over so having a nice variety is always a great place to start. Always, always, always have some sort of cheddar cheese. Everyone loves it. In this platter I included brie, goats cheese, and a havarti. I’ve recently been loving the pita crackers and the spicy and sweet jelly from Trader Joes (TBH who doesn’t love Trader Joes?) and are perfect paired together and paired with some cheese!
Now the good part – cocktails. I’m planning on spending the night at home with my parents (lame, I know) and I’m actually pretty excited to have a quiet night. Adding a little liquor to your glass is a great way to liven up a cheep bottle of prosecco. If you like to live on the edge, try mixing one ounce of citrus vodka with two ounces of prosecco and garnish with an orange twist. You can also add in a half ounce of cranberry juice to make it a little more tolerable!
