I personally believe that StumbleUpon is not talked about nor utilized as much as it should be within the blogging community. When used correctly, StumbleUpon can drive hundreds if not thousands of viewers to your blog each day, which in my book is considered a win. I have been receiving so many questions about StumbleUpon lately so I’m really excited to finally sit down and write this post and share with you how to use StumbleUpon to drive traffic to your blog so you can be a successful blogger.
Before we get started, I want to clarify with you guys that I am no expert at Stumbleupon and am new-ish to the whole “using StumbleUpon to drive traffic to my blog” thing, but the things I have tried have made a difference in my traffic. Since I started using StumbleUpon more seriously about a month ago, I’ve had at least 40-45% of my traffic each day come from the website! As I learn more about StumbleUpon and how to use it to drive traffic to your blog, I will be updating this post with those new findings so make sure to keep checking back!
– Use the same (or similar) username to that of your Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest accounts and use the same profile picture so that your followers know where to find you and can easily recognize you
– Treat StumbleUpon like any other social media site you use – follow people, like their shit, and share their shit
– Select what your interests are – this allow StumbleUpon to know what to share with you when you are stumbling along
– Use a good description and photos on any type of postings you make to make your content more shareable
Add Your Own Posts
Every time a new post goes live on your blog, add it to StumbleUpon and make sure to use the appropriate tags that coincide with the subject of your posts so that you can really maximize the amount of traffic you drive to your blog!
To do this, you’re going to click on your profile photo and a tool bar will appear, click ‘Add Page’
In the next page, you will see the following:
This is where you’re going to insert the link to your post, whether or not it’s safe for work (I’m really hoping it is!), and include what the post is about. Essentially you’re including interests (or tags) that pertain to your post – for example, I would include blogging and weblogs for this post!
The tricky thing about StumbleUpon is that it will penalize you for just adding your posts, so be sure to add 10-15 other posts from your blogging buddies every time you add one of your posts!
Add Other Content
Like I said before, StumbeUpon will penalize you for just sharing your own content so in order to be drive more traffic to your site, be sure to include other people’s blog posts, websites, and other cool shit you find around the internet each day! Sharing is caring in the blogging community and not only will your peers be thankful but you will be rewarded with more traffic!
Some bloggers make it 10x easier to share their content on StumbleUpon with their sharing options at the bottom of their post. Take advantage of it and take into adding Stumbleupon as an option to share your own posts.
When you have down time, stumble through other posts and make sure to thumbs up the ones you like so StumbleUpon knows what interests you and also knows you’re being active in the StumbleUpon community. Make sure you don’t go over board though, Stumbleupon will also penalize you for over sharing and your own content will get lost!
On the note of thumbs up-ing, thumbs downing posts carries the same amount of weight and makes a difference. When posts are heavily thumbs downed, they will be penalized and will show up less often when users are stumbling.
