Ah, Snapchat – the best thing since camera phones. I spend a crazy amount of time on Snapchat whether it’s to document the Starbucks I drank this morning, watch my friends’ snap stories, or rant about the idiot that decided to cross the road without looking both ways. Either way, Snapchat is a great way to connect with your friends so a few months ago I decided to make a Snapchat account for my blog so that I could connect with other bloggers, share a glimpse into my life, and promote my blog. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made concerning my blog and I’m sure it’ll be one of the best ones you make for your blog, too!
You’re probably thinking, how I do I incorporate my blog into Snapchat? Well, this is where I come in.
How to promote your blog via Snapchat:
Start A Series
A lot of bloggers have a weekly series on their blog, so why not bring that idea onto Snapchat? Decided on a day of the week and a subject you want to cover, then go buck wild and introduce your readers and followers to this series. Have some killer photography tips and tricks? Want to share the blogging tips you rely on religiously? Are you a foodie and want to share some of your favorite recipes, restaurants, and coffee houses? The options are endless and this allows you to share what you know with your followers in a more casual, relaxed setting.
Share A Glimpse Into Your Life & Personality
I would definitely consider myself a nosey person (sorry?). I try really hard not to be but I love knowing what is going on in people’s lives, what’s in their purses, how messy their rooms are so why not share these things on Snapchat? Whether people admit it or not, they love seeing what you’re wearing grocery shopping, how you look when you wake up in the morning, and basically the real, unedited version of yourself and your life because it allows for a personal connection to be made.
Behind The Scenes / Live Event
Taking the right Instagram photo takes time and sharing a little behind the scenes glimpse on how you do this and all of the props that go into it makes you see a little more normal than just being like “Hey, here’s my Instagram photo. It took 2 seconds to take and my life is as perfect in real life as it is in this photo.” It’s also fun to show a little behind the scenes glimpse on a live event that you might be attending/covering for an upcoming blog post. Plus it builds excitement for said upcoming post.
Share Your Blog Posts
Do you have a new blog post that just went live on your blog? Do it! Let people know a new blog post just went up, a little snippet about what it’s about, and your blog URL. BAM! Now you have a new traffic source, potential new visitors to your blog, and more attention to that specific blog post.
Finding new ways to promote your blog in exclusive ways not only drives attention to your blog but also gains you more followers can everyone loves exclusive content. It’s like a secret girl gang about a specific topic – you know it, and other followers know about it, but the general public is in the dark. Share a funny story that helps your followers get to know you better, share bits and pieces of your blog launch that is happening next month, show an item you’ll be giving away on your blog in the near future, etc.
Tips you need to try:
You can add more than one filter
Here’s how: If you want to add more than one filter to your Snapchats all you have to do is snap a pic and choose your first filter. Use one finger to hold the filter and use another finger to swipe and choose another filter/feature.
You can add more than one text line
Here’s how: Open up the notes app on your phone and click return/enter a couple of times without adding any text.
Then, double tap for your copy/paste options to appear and click “select all” to highlight the entire section and then click “copy” to copy the lines to your clipboard. Now all you have to do is to Snapchat like normal but before you start typing in the text box, paste the lines you just created in Notes!
You can send money
Here’s how: Open up Snapchat and click the ghost at the top of the screen to get your “home screen” to appear. Next, click the settings wheel and select “Snapcash” and this is where you’ll add your card information, and choose whether or not you want to require your CVV to be inputted before sending money.
