Real talk – WHAT THE FREAKIN HECK HAS THIS WEATHER BEEN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS?! Boston has experienced some nice days here and there, this 50-degree and rainy bologna screams April, not June so I’m sure you can see where I’m coming from. If it’s not raining, the rain has just passed therefore we have been blessed with *way* to many gloomy days. I’m at the point that I’m not sure if I should I wear summer clothes or pull my riding boots back out??? But anyways….
The gloomy day outfit broken down for you:
A CUTE (BUT FUNCTIONAL!) JACKET
I picked this jacket coat up back in March and I have been wearing it non-stop ever since. Although it is a rain coat, it is not waterproof so be careful when it’s rainy out! I obviously still wear it when it’s down pouring because I’m not smart, but learn from my mistakes people, learn from my mistakes.
The thing I love about this jacket is that it’s longer so it protects my legs a little bit from the rain and the hood is PHENOMENAL. It has an extra button on the neck part and drawstrings around it so on those extra windy days, this baby is not going ANYWHERE. It also isn’t your typical rain jacket material (& it’s not heavy!) so it’s perfect for chilly mornings and gloomy days.
A GREAT PAIR OF DENIM
A great pair of denim is on my list of things to wear every day, but especially on days that are overcast and blah. The reason is that it’s kinda crappy out so you’re really not in the mood to look cute but man oh man, what a great pair of denim can do for you on a gloomy day. It almost makes it feel like it’s sunny and 75 degrees out because you feel THAT good.
My favorite everyday denim, that is guaranteed to make me feel great, is the Patriotic Wash Skinny Jean from J. Crew Factory. I mainly reach for these because of the 1. price and 2. fit. Since they aren’t super expensive, I’m okay with going through more pairs than I normally would of any other jean . I’m also a little bit more curvier through the butt and thighs and they’ve never given me an issue and are a mid-rise (I think????) jean so I can cover up da love handles. Hollllllllllla.
I know I’m not layered up in these photos (just wearing my fav long sleeve), but wearing layers on gloomy days always looks *extra* cute – just look on Pinterest! I typically reach for a comfy long sleeve and pull on a cute sweater for extra coziness. Then, if it gets warm(er) out, you can always take the sweater off and tie it around your waist (this is still cool, right???).
IT’S ALL IN THE SHOES
The one good thing about gloomy days: you can get away with just about any type of shoe you feel like wearing. Want to wear rainboots? GREAT, you look prepared for any unexpected rain. Want to wear something open toe? GO RIGHT AHEAD! It’s not raining so your toes won’t get wet. Tryna wear sneaks? WOW YOU ARE SO PRACTICAL. Booties are one of my favorite types of shoes to wear on gloomy days just because I feel like they are made for gloomy days, who’s with me?
I honestly can’t believe it took me this long to shoot these peep toe booties. I’m not even sure if you would consider them booties but I’m not sure what else they would be? This pair is SUPER comfy, they’re under $100 (holllllllla), and go with just about everything! Win-win. They’re also practical if you walk a ways to work like I do and I haven’t gotten one blister!
What do you tend to wear on gloomy days?!
